Mark Gilyead

Areas covered include Barnet, Muswell Hill (N10), East Finchley/Fortis Green (N2), Finchley/Church End/Finchley Central (N3), North Finchley/Woodside Park (N12), Totteridge & Whetstone/Oakleigh Park (N20), Mill Hill East (all Northern line) & all surrounding areas.

Mark’s varied musical upbringing and youthful enthusiasm make him a knowledgable and inspirational teacher. He grew up playing in everything from symphony orchestras to rock bands and gained his BMus (Hons) at the University of Surrey where he studied drum kit, percussion and jazz composition.

As well as nearly 10 years experience in teaching, Mark has led workshops in drumming, music technology & songwriting and has worked with children with special educational needs (SEN). He believes in finding and following each pupils’ musical interests, whether that is through graded material, developing skills to play creatively in a band or simply learning to jam along to their favourite song.

Outside of teaching, Mark plays professionally, touring internationally and playing major UK festivals with his band Fresh Dixie. He is a keen composer and songwriter and has recorded at some of the country’s top studios.
